Exhibition
ANDREAS FELGER. COLOR PLAY
22. März – 04. Mai 2025
Präsenz Gallery Gnadenthal
Andreas Felger turned ninety on January 1, 2025
– an occasion to celebrate the artist and his work with his companions, friends of his art, and those interested in discovering his work! For an entire year, visitors will be able to experience facets of the extensive and multifaceted oeuvre of the painter, graphic artist, and sculptor from Mössingen-Belsen.
In the anniversary year 2025 the Andreas Felger Cultural Foundation has set itself the task of ‘returning’ the artist’s work to places where Andreas Felger lived and worked for many years. This includes Gnadenthal in Hesse, where he lived for 40 years in the ecumenical community of Gnadenthal before returning to his old home in Mössingen at the foot of the Swabian Alb in 2009. On the occasion of the artist’s 90th birthday, his works are returning to Gnadenthal for the first time. In addition to current paintings, the exhibition includes abstract relief-like acrylic and oil paintings that mediate between pictorial and three-dimensional art and can be seen in close connection to his sculptures.
At the opening, Dr Oliver Kohler will not only discuss the exhibited work in his introduction, but will also place special emphasis on some of the most striking designs from previous collaborations between Andreas Felger and writers such as Reiner Kunze, Hilde Domin, Peter Härtling, Albrecht Goes, Nelly Sachs, Paul Celan and Abba Kovner in Stranger, you, as well as Martin Buber and Paul Gerhardt. These artistic collaborations between images and words have their origins in the Gnadenthaler Präsenz Publisher & Gallery, which has published and exhibited Andreas Felger’s work for many years.
We cordially invite you to the closing event with musical improvisations based on the works of Andreas Felger on Saturday, 3 May 2025, at 7.30 p.m. in the monastery church.
