\u201eLIGHT IN THE DARKNESS\u201c is an artistic intervention by painter Mimo Mali in the Christ Pavilion. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Christus Pavilion and the nine chambers in the Thuringian monastery of Volkenroda, the artist Mimo Mali was commissioned by the Andreas Felger Cultural Foundation and the Volkenroda Monastery to engage artistically with the chambers designed by Andreas Felger in 2001. In interaction with, complementing, and contrasting these chambers, she created nine color installations that literally show the chambers and their messages in a \u201cnew light.\u201d After 20 years of unaffected perception of the chambers in the Christ Pavilion, this temporary artistic intervention can highlight new, contemporary, and different aspects and interpretations that have not yet been seen in connection with the chambers designed by Andreas Felger.<\/p>\n

Mimo Mali is a multidisciplinary mixed media artist, urban artist, creative nomad, and honorary Berliner (part-time) with North African and German roots. She has a degree in sculpture, painting, and visual communication. She currently lives and works in Mexico. She works with mixed media and experiments with a wide range of materials, constantly developing new possibilities for aesthetic expression. The term \u201cupcycling art\u201d refers to reused, recycled objects and materials that find new life and meaning in her works. She combines layers of fabric, images from old books, crystals, and chemical reactions that complement inventive patterns, abstract elements, geometric shapes, portals, and rainbow warriors. Her preferred media include assemblage, installation, animation, collage, canvas works, and large-scale murals.<\/p>\n

Mimo’s profound style has brought her international and commercial success, including exhibitions in numerous galleries worldwide, advertising and product design for well-known brands, work for film and television, commissions for murals in many notable locations, features in numerous publications such as Art Rojo Magazine, IdN Magazine, Nylon Magazine, Lodown Magazine, and a cover story for Art Monthly Australia (for more information about Mimo Mali, visit www.mimomali.com).<\/p>\n

The artist herself says of her approach to the extended temporary design of the nine chambers in the Christ Pavilion: “I intuitively responded to the characteristics of each chamber with its colors and messages. My working method is more of a sensitive one. I instinctively engage with the circumstances. Unlike conceptual artists, who have a concept in advance, mine is more of a kind of intuitive artistic transformation. By engaging with things and observing them, they speak to me and reveal themselves. And whatever is revealed to me in that specific moment, I transform into something new using my artistic means and possibilities.”<\/em><\/p>\n
