OEUVRE<\/a> \/ WOODCUT<\/h4>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The first works that Andreas Felger created as a freelance artist from 1970 onwards were coloured woodcuts. Until the 1980s, he produced numerous woodblock prints in the form of single sheets as well as cycles and portfolios \u2013 works that reveal both a high degree of perfection in craftsmanship and an impressive range of forms and colours.

<\/span><\/p>\n

Initially, the main themes were nature and landscape, images of people and biblical motifs. His home, the Swabian Alb, inspires the artist, as do journeys to Israel and Egypt.<\/p>\n

In the cycle Creation<\/em> (Sch\u00f6pfung), Felger creates concise images from the interplay of narrative line and structuring surface, while in the Old Testament story of Abraham, the narrative flows into the image-making. These and other biblical image sequences, including Noah, Song of Songs, Kohelet or parables of Jesus, are laid in the ecumenical commune in Gnadenthal<\/a> where Felger was living with his family at the time.<\/p>\n

In the 1990s and 2000s, Andreas Felger expanded his woodcut repertoire to include abstractions, symbolic signs, colour fields and geometric form studies.
